What we need is the host files to be able to affect all players.  That way people can host games with mods, and all the players would receive the same effects as the host.  As it is right now, mods aren't all that much use except for private games.

If they could create boxes where you could check mods, and then choose your mods in game, that'd be amazing.

SOME things do affect the players.  For instance, having the host remove scaling SHOULD affect others.  Changing monster damage SHOULD affect others.

This is all contingent on a Live DM game.

I tried altering monster damage, but it seemed to have bugged out the game completely causing players who joined to become invisible and not able to see any monsters.

Is that all you modded, or did you have other mods in, like unlocked creature sets, etc.?

I tried just the modded damage and spells.  Although it's possible I screwed up in some way in getting the original Resource.JSON file from Jocollomon's download.  It looks a lot different than yours and Mad Hatter's when first opening it up, but then I don't know how much you guys changed the original file already.

Jocolloman's repository isn't terribly useful anymore because he never updated it after nSpace altered the files in cp1/2.

^^ Indeed.  There are entire variables and nodes that were added to CP2, not to mention various additions including DM placeables and so on.... The repositories list old ones.

I will speak to Jo about inheriting this responsibility from him.

Doubt there will be any 'official' mods.  Whose mods do you use? Every persons?

Then you have to review the mod, qa the thing, make sure it's documented properly, etc.

Ensure it doesn't breach licensing.  Whoa! I just created a Wheel of Time mod, cool huh?

Fairly sure they don't want to get sued for copyright violations.

There's already such a slew of change ideas floating around that just picking through

the best and implementing them is going to take a year.

Best case scenario is that they host a public exchange site for modules and mods,

but even then they would need a moderator and operator to handle DMCA requests

full time.  Imagine if Xtc created a module or mod then Yta took it and change a few

lines and words then uploaded it as their own...

Yeah, even an exchange would be a real wild horse to control.

you have to read the OP. Your comment is completely unrelated to the mod stuff I'm pushing to be made official, which btw I still am pushing for officiality!

@flamierd,

So what are you suggesting?  You are showing the problems but was solutions would you suggest to answer those problems?

I think the Mod's should not be controlled by N-Space, WotC, or other supporting developing organizations.  I do think they should periodically review the most popular ones developed and take the construct on for implementation is it is sound with 5e requirements and design.

Personally, I was thinking of building a pseudo BG, IWD, or NWN style adventure.  Obviously, it would not infringe on the already developed content but the adventure portrayed is public domain, for the most part.

If your identifying a problem and not proposing a reciprocal solution to solve the stated problem, then you are not helping.

Yeah, noticing the same as I look at the content.

Cracking open the UABE files and validating the content compared to his repository.

Working mods to be hosted by only the DM would be a game changer.

Agreed, but it would also increase load times drastically.

I can see it now...

"I've only got to download 1.8Gig to go -- we should be able to play in about 3 hours!"

I wouldn't be against a mod manager app though!
